Zyla wins World Cup leg in Oslo

Piotr Zyla and Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer were joint winners in Oslo on Sunday in the penultimate event of the Ski Jumping World Cup.

Zyla managed the longest jump of the entire weekend with 135.5m, complemented by 133.5m in his second leap. Schlierenzauer managed 134.5m and 135m.

In the overall rankings, the Austrian still has an emphatic lead with some 1496 points, putting him over 500 points ahead of Norwegian Anders Bardal in second place.

However, Pole Kamil Stoch, who came fourth on Sunday, has a strong chance of finishing on the final podium next weekend.

Stoch is currently in third place in the overall rankings, with 897 points, closely followed by Germany's Severin Freund in fourth (865 points).

Piotr Zyla's superb win propelled him from 24th to 19th place in the cup's rankings.

The final event of the World Ski Jumping Cup will be held next weekend at Planica in Slovenia. (nh)
