“I've never been an especially thin person, and I've always had problems with being overweight, and so when I reached thirty, I decided to do something for myself,” revealed Maciej Kurzajewski in an interview with Polish Radio.

Kurzajewski, who works for public broadcaster TVP, says that he was persuaded to take up the seven-continent challenge by Marek Tronina, chairman of the Warsaw Marathon Foundation.

“I want to show with this project that everyone can run,” he said.

Kurzajewski already has the Tel Aviv and London marathons under his belt this year, and he now has races in South Africa and Rio de Janeiro coming up back to back.

“There are only two weeks between them, so I'm not expecting to break any records,” he quipped.

If he can get all seven in the bag, not least Antarctica, Kurzajewski will join an exclusive group of less than 100 runners to have completed the feat in the space of a year. (nh)
