Former F1 driver Robert Kubica showed he’s got what it takes to become a top class rally driver when confronted by a tree in the middle of the road at the Rally of Finland.

As the photo above demonstrates, Kubica, driving a Citroen DS3 RRC, didn’t try to drive around the fallen tree but simply drove straight through it and later took second place in the race.

The video below shows how the tree came to be in the middle of the road in the first place, when the Pole smashed through it after nearly exiting the road.

Kubica’s Formula One career came to an abrupt end in February 2011, when he was seriously injured in a crash at the Ronde di Andora, partially severing his forearm.

After an extended period of rehabilitation, Poland’s first ever F1 driver has been busy.

In June Kubica was 11th overall in the Acropolis Rally, ninth in the Rally of Sardinia and was second at the Rally of Finland behind Finland's Jari Ketomaa. (pg)
