Pawel Fajdek won gold in the hammer and Anita Wlodarczyk and Piotr Malachowski both won silver medals in the discus at the games which ended on Sunday.

Hopes of success for shot putter Tomasz Majewski - gold medalist at the London 2012 Olympics - were dashed after he failed to recover totally from elbow surgery earlier this year and could only finish sixth in the competition.

Russia topped the medal table with seven golds, four silver and six bronze, with United States in second, Jamaica third and Kenya in fourth.

In the last championships, in Daegu, South Korea in 2011, Poland again came 11th in the medal table, alongside Brazil, Botswana, New Zealand, Granada and Japan. (pg)
