Polish biathlete Krystyna Palka has claimed that someone interfered with her rifle during the 4 x 6 km relay in Sochi.

Palka told the RMF FM radio station that “after missing five times, I knew that someone had fiddled with my rifle.

“I was sure of it,” she added.

“After all, it's not the first time that I've shot,” she said.

Palka had earlier claimed that she would have won the gold medal had it not been for her poor performance with the rifle.

The Polish Biathlon Association will make a request to study surveillance footage, according to association chairman Zbigniew Waskiewicz.

Meanwhile, Justyna Kowalczyk, who won the gold medal in the women's 10 km Cross Country Classic - in spite of a severely injured foot - has said that she is hanging up her boots for the season.

A statement on her official web site confirmed that her foot is beginning to heal but that she would need yet more “strong painkillers” to compete again and she has “had enough of chemicals.”
