Warsaw hosts Polish Badminton Open

Badminton players from across the globe began competing in the 40th Yonex Polish Open in Warsaw on Thursday.

The event brings together 250 players from 37 countries, with unseeded players competing in qualifying games on Thursday before the tournament begins in earnest on Friday.

Poland's highest hopes are in the doubles, with defending men's champions Adam Cwalina and Przemyslaw Wacha entering the fray once again this year as the top-seeeded pair.

There are also chances for glory in the Mixed Doubles, with Robert Mateusiak and Agnieszka Wojtkowska seeded No.1.

The quarter-finals will be played on Saturday morning, followed by the semis in the afternoon, and the finals on Sunday.

Entry to all of the games at Warsaw's Arena Ursynow is free. (nh)
