Agnieszka Radwanska has said she is hungry for victory on home turf after winning a place in the quarter-finals of the WTA Katowice Open, beating Francesca Schiavone 6-4, 6-3.

“I'm here to win it,” she told Polish Radio on Thursday, after dispatching Italian challenger Schiavone.

"We'll see how if it works out."

Although Radwanska is currently World No.3, victory in a WTA tournament has eluded her this year, and recurring injuries have not helped matters.

“Today, I played better than on Tuesday, but the match lasted nearly two hours,” she acknowledged.

“I expected a tough battle from start to finish, and I got exactly what I expected,” Radwanska told WTA.

“She moved so well today that I had to show my best tennis to beat her.”

However, the Krakow-born player said being on home ground gave her a boost.

“It felt great to play in front of a packed house of Polish fans,” she enthused.

Radwanska is now set to play Austrian Yvonne Meusburger (WTA ranking No. 38). It will be the fourth encounter on court between the two, with Radwanska wining all the matches so far. (nh)
