The Rally Sardegna had started disastrously for defending champion Sonik, when a problem with his quad practically putting him out of the race.
“I wanted to cry, but I told myself that it could only get better,” he said.
“On every stage I fought for another minute, and in the end luck turned in my favour.
“I won, I'm very happy!
“This is proof that you should never give up in life. Even if something looks hopeless, it may turn out well. You just need determination, consistency and the will to fight.”
There are now just two rallies left in the 2014 FIM Cross-Country World Championships, with the Rallye dos Sertoes in Brazil in August, and then the OiLibya Rally in Morocco in October. Sonik was world champion last year, and fans are keeping fingers crossed he can retain the title.
