The red and white warriors got off to a flying start in Lodz, central Poland, going 7-1 up in the opening phase of the first set, ultimately winning 25-22.
The second set saw no big breaks, with the two teams level-pegging at 15-15, before the home side finally accelerated, jumping to 22-19 and then finishing up 25-23.
The visitors bounced back in the third set, with both sides battling hard for each point, and Italy eventually clawing their way to a 25-23 win.
Poland was not going see a repeat performance in the fourth set, and the hosts powered ahead to a 16-9 lead, before winning the set comfortably 25-15.
Sunday's victory against Group A leaders Italy puts Poland in second place, with two teams set to qualify from each group for the Final Six in Florence from 16 July to 20 July. (nh)
