Majka, who is the second-ever Pole to wear the polka dot jersey in the mountain stages of the Tour de France, was fined with an additional 10 seconds in the general classification and had five points deducted in the sprinter classification. He also has to pay a fine of 50 Swiss francs.

The incident happened around 8 km from the finish line. Majka was racing head-to-head with leader, Movistar’s Giovanni Visconti when he pushed himself off of an antenna of one of the motorcycles riding alongside.

The penalty will make no difference to Majka’s overall standing, as he places 52nd in the general classification, two hours behind the leader. (jb)
