Liftoff for World Gliding Championships in Leszno

Poles are winning a number of competitions as part of the 33rd World Gliding Championships in Leszno, western Poland.

On the first day of the competition, Karol Staryszak won in the 18m class, while on the second day, Sebastian Kawa won the 15m class, with Staryszak and Lukasz Wojciek coming top in the 18m class.

Meanwhile, the Polish gliding team is in the lead after the first days of 5th FAI World Advanced Glider Aerobatic Championships in Torun, central Poland.

In the individual Advanced competition, Frenchman Roman Vienne leads, ahead of Pole Katarzyna Zmudzinska. In the United class, Czech pilot Premysl Vavra leads.

Poland is represented by a total of 12 pilots in the competition – four in the United class and eight in the Advanced competition.

The World Advanced Glider Aerobatic Championships are ongoing until 2 August. (jb)
