“I'm coming with my team to fight for victory,” Majka said at a press conference in Warsaw on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old, who rides with Tinkoff-Saxo, acknowledged that he's still reeling from last week's success in France.

“My life has changed,” he said.

“It's all happening very fast now -I don't have time for myself or my family.”

Meanwhile, Michal Kwiatkowski, who actually finished ahead of Majka in the general classification of the 21-stage Tour de France (Kwiatkowski came 28th, Majka 44th), has said that owing to exhaustion, he will not be competing in the Polish race.

“I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for Rafal,” he said.

“He's capable of winning.”

Rafal Majka became the first ever Pole to win the mountains classification of the Tour de France last week. He also won two individual stages of the race, another first for Poland.

The 71st Tour de Pologne, Poland's most prestigious cycling event, begins on 3 August, lasting until 9 August. The eight stage course starts in Gdansk and ends in Krakow. (nh)
