The Jamaican six-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder over 100 and 200 metres, who trained at the AWF athletics stadium in Warsaw on Tuesday, began his 2014 season at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland in July after a lay-off due to a foot injury.

Marcin Rosengarten, director of the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial on Saturday – in memory of the Polish athlete and Olympic gold medal hammer thrower who died in 2009 at the age of 26 after suffering a pulmonary embolism – said that when Usain Bolt returned to his hotel after the training session he looked out of the window at the National Stadium and asked whether the roof will be closed for the meeting at the weekend.

When told that this was a real possibility, Bolt said: “OK, I'll beat the world indoor record then”.

IAAF international athletics judge Janusz Rozum told Polish Radio that this should not necessarily be seen as a joke, with Bolt easily capable of beating Namibian Franck Fredericks' unofficial world record indoors of 10.05 over 100 metres.

Bolt, who will be celebrating his 28th birthday in Poland on Thursday, will be running the 100 metres at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial at 19.00 CET on Saturday. (pg)
