In March, Kipchirchir won a half-marathon in Warsaw in a Polish records time of 1: 00.48.

First place in the women's race was taken by 38 year old Svitlana Stanko from Ukraine who crossed the finish line after 2 hours and 33 minutes.

Among the 7000 taking part in the race through the Polish capital was a large group from the UK, plus athletes from Germany, Sweden, France, Italy and Kenya.

Those with less stamina tested their endurance in a 5 kilometre run as well as the Hand Bike and Roller Skate Marathons.

Warsaw drivers were less happy due to an equally demanding challenge of navigating the city with 42 kilometres of major streets closed to traffic for several hours. (ss/pg)
