Radwanska, the world's number 6 seed , lost her final round robin match in the White Group to No.2 seed Maria Sharapova on Friday, 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-2.

That meant that she had to rely on her friend, the Polish-Danish Caroline Wozniacki to beat Petra Kvitova to earn a place in the semi-finals of the last major women's tournament - where the top eight seeded players face off against each other - of 2014.

Wozniacki came through for Radwanska, however, beating the Czech 6 – 2, 6 – 1.

"I think we are just going to go shopping, but with my credit card,” Radwanska said in thanks after the match.

"I hope she's going to keep her promise!" Wozniacki said. "She owes me a handbag.

Radwanska will now play Romanian Simona Halep in Saturday's semi, with Wozniacki having to face women's top seed Serena Willams in the other last-four match. (pg)
