The 46 year-old, whose opponents during a long career included Mike Tyson, Tim Witherspoon, Riddick Bowe and Lennox Lewis, was Poland's most successful fighter ever in the heavyweight division.

Aside from reaching the top ten in most world boxing rankings in the 1990s, Golota also won bronze for Poland at the 1988 Olympic Games in South Korea and fought for the world championship four times.

Golota beat Nicholson, also 46 year-old, in an 8th round TKO in 1996.

The four-round fight on Saturday night was not scored by judges so Golota could not add to his professional record of 41 wins, including 33 knockouts, nine losses and one draw. (pg)
