Resovia, based in the south-eastern city of Rzeszów, beat Lokomotiv by three sets to one (20:25, 25:21, 29:27, 25:17) and takes a considerable advantage into the home leg on 11 March.

Lokomotiv won the first set but was unable to withstand Resovia’s counterattack.

The Russians, reckoned among the favourites of this year’s Champions League, won the highest club trophy in European volleyball two years ago and came second in the Russian domestic league, the world’s strongest, last year.

The winner of the tie will play in the Final Four of the Champions League in Berlin. (an)
