Vasaloppet, or the Vasa Race, named after the Swedish royal dynasty whose members were also elected to the Polish throne, is the world’s oldest, longest and biggest (in terms of participant numbers) cross-country ski event.

The event is not part of the World Cup circuit, where Kowalczyk normally competes. The longest Olympic distance is 50 kilometres.

Five Polish skiers will compete in the World Cup races at Lahti, Finland. The women will run 10 kilometres, while men – 15 kilometres. (an)
