Smuda’s three-year contract was terminated prematurely after about 18 months.
The 67-year-old Smuda, whose struggles with Polish grammar and vocabulary have made him both popular with the media and slightly dreaded by them, has in the past coached the Polish national football team.
This was Smuda’s third stint at Wisła Kraków, which he led to a championship in 1998/9. In 1996/7 Smuda managed Widzew Łódź, the last Polish team to qualify to Champions League.
Wisła’s performance in the autumn half of the league was moderately successful. In the four matches since, the team has only picked up one point and slunk to sixth in the table. (an)
