Poland’s former football team captain, Jakub Błaszczykowski may have been dropped after returning from injury due to conflict with his stand-in and the team’s biggest, Robert Lewandowski.

Błaszczykowski was one of Poland’s biggest stars, playing right wing for the national team and Germany’s Borussia Dortmund until injury sidelined him for nearly a year.

He is now back for Borussia but was left out of the team for the European Championship qualifier against the Republic of Ireland scheduled for March 29.

Adam Nawałka, the national team’s manager, said the decision was due to concerns over Błaszczykowski’s health.

But daily Gazeta Wyborcza suggests the more likely reason for Błaszczykowski’s exclusion is his conflict with Robert Lewandowski, his Dortmund teammate until a recent transfer to Bayern Munich. (an)
