Number 1-seeded Radwańska comfortably beat Wickmayer 6:1, 6:3 on Tuesday evening. The match was the pair’s sixth, with Radwańska only conceding one match previously.

Radwańska goes on to play another Belgian, An-Sophie Mestach, who won on Tuesday against Magdalena Fręch 6:2, 6:1.

“I’m really happy that I played a good match today,” Radwańska said after the match, adding that “the draw was tough, because my opponent has a lower ranking than how she actually plays”.

Radwańska admitted that one of her coaches, Czech-born tennis legend Martina Navratilova, is not in Katowice for the WTA Open.

“I’m sure she’s watching the match on TV and we’ll talk on Tuesday or Wednesday,” Radwańska said.

Agnieszka Radwańska also underlined that she would like to win the tournament, saying “I always come to a match with such a goal, I’ll do anything to play here to the end”. (jb)
