The exact date and cause of the death of “Rich”, found dead on Wednesday at his Warsaw home, remain to be determined.

Born in 1948 Szaro emigrated to the US as a 14-year-old and settled in Brooklyn.

After majoring in economics at Harvard, Szaro played as kicker for New Orleans Saints over 1971-1979.

In 1976 Szaro led the NFL with 18 kicks made out of 23 attempted.
He moved back to Poland in the 1990s, working in wholesale trading and promoted American football.

There are now two Poles in the NFL, Sebastian Janikowski of the Oakland Raiders and Babatunde Aiyegbusi, a Nigerian-Polish 22-year-old who signed for the Minnesota Vikings in recent days. (an)
