Sonik leading Qatar rally after penultimate stage

Quad-rider Rafał Sonik held on to his overall lead on Thursday in Qatar's Sealine Cross Country Rally, winning the penultimate stage.

Meanwhile, in the car category, Marek Dąbrowski and Jacek Czachor are in 6th place overall, while Adam Małysz and Rafał Marton are just behind in 7th.
Motorcyclist Jakub Piątek is likewise in 7th.
Tragic news has also emerged from Qatar, with the confirmation that Belgian co-driver Jurgen Damen died in hospital on Wednesday night, after sustaining injuries during an accident in the first stage of the rally. (nh)
