Quad-driving captain and defending champion Rafał Sonik came second, as did motorcyclist Jakub Piątek, while former ski-jumper Adam Małysz managed third in the car category, together with his partner Xavier Panseri.

Marek Dąbrowski and Jacek Czachor also finished in a respectable position, coming sixth among the car-drivers.

This is the first time I've competed in Egypt and I have to admit that this desert rally is quite different from those in which I had the opportunity of participating in before,” Małysz told Polish Radio.

Firstly, today's stage was very fast, with a lot of straight parts that we could accelerate on.”

The event is part of the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship, and Sonik is winning in the overall rankings so far. Marek Dąbrowski and Jacek Czachor are coming fifth in the car category, and Małysz ninth. Piątek is 12th among motorcyclists. (nh)
