Athletes take on Poland's tallest building in charity run

Athletes are scaling Poland's tallest skyscraper for charity on Saturday in the latest edition of Wrocław's Sky Tower Run.

Fifty male and fifty female runners are taking part in the event at Wrocław's Sky Tower, which in the category of height to roof is the country's highest building.

The runners have 1142 stairs to conquer, spread over 49 floors.

The record time that was set last year was 6 minutes and 22 seconds by Piotr Ślęzak.

Although the qualifying round does not count in the record stakes, fellow runner Piotr Łobodziński smashed Slęzak's time with 5 minutes and 3 seconds.

The contestants are raising money for a foundation that raises money for children with cancer (Fundacja Na Ratunek Dzieciom z Chorobą Nowotworową).

All in all, 800 people signed up for the event, although only a hundred made it through to the final. (nh)
