It was not all plane sailing for the Pole however, with Hamou taking the initial lead, defeating Janowicz 7-6 in the first set on a tie-break.

The Frenchman also managed to pique the Pole by firing off a return directly at Janowicz, despite the fact that a serve had been called out. The ball whistled past the Pole, narrowly missing him.

“You're suppose to say you're sorry,” Janowicz apparently told Hamou.

Although Janowicz managed to take the last three sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, the tensions were still very much visible when the Pole grabbed the other's hand in a rather agressive handshake following the final point.

The two then glowered at each other in style more often witnessed in the boxing ring. (nh)
