The Poles need just two more points now to assure their advance to the Final Six, with the qualifiers set to play in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, next month.

In Sunday's clash, Jakub Jarosz notched up the most points for Poland with 22, while Shahram Mahmoudi managed 12 for Iran.

The victory was a relief for Poland, with the Iranians winning 3-2 in Friday's fixture.

Poland are currently second in Pool B, with the United States leading. The two sides are due to play twice this coming weekend in Kraków in sides' final Pool B clashes. Poland can still pick up two points even by losing, provided they go to a tie-break.

The final showdown in Brazil is the first qualifying round for the 2016 Olympics.

Meanwhile, a weaker Polish side narrowly missed bronze at the European Games in Baku on Sunday, with Russia defeating Poland 3-1. (nh)
