In front of a full-house of 15,000, Poland saw its chances fade after early promise.
Coach Stephane Antiga made some changes to the squad, with Andrzej Wrona and Rafał Buszek starting in the place of Paweł Zatorski and Piotr Gacek.
On the US’s Independence Day, before the match the organisers honoured Polish veterans that had served alongside their US allies in Afghanistan.
In the Final Six, to be played from 15 July do 19 July in Rio de Janeiro, Poland will play with Serbia and Italy. This means that if they do qualify they will probably have to play either the US or Brazil in the final. (jh)
