After cruising through her first four matches without dropping a single set, Tuesday's showdown proved more tricky.

Indeed, Radwańska had her service broken in the very first game of the match.

However, the 26-year-old and World No. 13 dug in and eventually took the first set on a tie-break.

Radwańska's younger rival proved how hungry for victory she was, with the 20-year-old bouncing back to take the next set 6-3.

There were nerves galore in the decisive set, with Keys hitting a series of winning points just on the line, and at 3-3, it was anyone's guess who would emerge on top.

However, Radwańska then won her next service game and proceeded to break Keys' serve.

At 5-3, the Pole then advanced to 40-15, with two match points. Keys managed one more success, but Radwańska, then serving from 40-30, wrapped things up, to the applause of her fans.

The Kraków-born star is now set to play Spain's Garbine Muguruza on Thursday. (nh)
