Agnieszka Radwańska's dreams of Grand Slam glory were shattered once again on Thursday, with Spaniard Garbine Muguruza winning their Wimbledon semi-final 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

I don't have words to explain it, Muguruza said after falling to her knees with joy.

I worked all my life to achieve this moment.

The odds had seemed stacked in favour of 26-year-old Radwańska (World No. 13), the more experienced of the two, but 21-year-old Muguruza (World No. 20) proved to be a formidable opponent.

Radwańska had only dropped one set in the entire tournament going into Thursday's match, in what was a sensational return to form for the Krakow-born star.

But Muguruza showed she meant business right from the off, clobbering Radwanska 6-2 in the first set.

Radwańska then bounced back, taking the second 6-3, leaving the crowd on tenterhooks for the final clash.

But although she gave it her best, Radwańska simply could not master the Spaniard in the decisive set.

Today's match marked the Pole's third time in a Wimbledon semi-final, following on from 2012 and 2013. In 2012, she had made the final, ultimately losing to American Serena Williams.

Radwańska has yet to win a Grand Slam final, but her performance at Wimbledon this year, after a disappointing season, has shown she is still a force to be reckoned with. (nh)
