The Poland international lost his place in the Arsenal team to David Ospina for much of the second half of the 2014-15 Premier League season.

After Arsenal signed Petr Cech from Chelsea for about EUR 15 million earlier this summer, Wenger decided that Szczęsny would be released before the start of the new campaign.

Ospina and Damian Martinez will now provide the competition in goal for Cech.

It has been reported that Roma will pay EUR 400,000 for the loan move, and will retain the option to make the deal permanent.

Szczęsny was caught smoking in the changing rooms following defeat to Southampton at the turn of the year, and although Wenger denied he had been dropped as a result, he did not make another Premier League appearance for the rest of the season. (jh)
