The director of the Festival of Throwers in Cetniewo (a sports centre in Władyslawowo on the Baltic coast), had predicted that Włodarczyk could smash the world record at the event.

Włodarczyk went on to throw the hammer at a world record 81.08 metres.

This competition is part of run-up to the upcoming World Championships in Athletics, which will be held on 22-30 August in Beijing.

“There are no obstacles to [officially] confirm Anita’s result. The [throwing cages and rings] in Wladysławowo received the necessary certificate two years ago, before the first Throwing Festival and all the results obtained in Władyslawowo are valid,” said the director of the Central Sport Centre, Marcin Jędryczka.

The 29-year-old Włodarczyk earned a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics in London and a gold at the 2009 World Championships held in Berlin.

Witnessing this historic event were the parents of the athlete.

"We try to accompany our daughter in all her competitions. Anita says that she throws better when we are in the stands,” the athlete’s mum, Maria Włodarczyk, said.
