“I’m ecstatic; winning two stages in a World Tour race is a fantastic emotion,” the Italian racer declared after finishing in the Silesian capital of Katowice in southern Poland.

“Today’s sprint was hard to set up, and it was extremely fast; the final circuit covered a long straightway on a slight rise and then a long, straight downhill all the way to the finish line.”

However, the yellow jersey remains with German Marcel Kittel (Giant-Alpecin), who came in seventh in the third stage.

The highest ranked Pole at the moment is Michał Kwiatkowski (Etixx-Quickstep), who is in seventh place.

All in all there are seven stages in the Tour de Pologne, with the race set to finish in Kraków on 8 August. (nh/rk)
