The pair managed to keep their cool under pressure, saving all 13 break points against them.

The fourth seeds will now face 2015 Wimbledon finalists Jamie Murray and John Peers on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, Polish hopes are likewise high, with Łukasz Kubot and his Czech partner Andrea Hlavackova playing their quarter-final on Tuesday against Belarusian Max Mirnyi and Anastasia Rodionova, who now competes for Australia.

Marcin Matkowski made the men's doubles final of the US Open in 2011, with his then partner Mariusz Fyrstenberg. Kubot's career highlight to date was victory in the men's doubles of the 2014 Australian Open.

Poland has no contestants still in the running in either the men's singles or the women's singles of this year's US Open. (nh)
