“For a long time I have known that I want to be in a marathon team. Because in order to compete in marathons, you have to be in a team. And when I was approached by one of the best teams in the world asking if I wanted to join, I didn't have to consider it long,” Kowalczyk told journalists on Friday.

Kowalczyk has scored 30 wins in World Cup competitions in the series.

She has had a difficult couple of years, however, and only won three competitions in the last two seasons.

She is set to compete in the World Cup which kicks off on 27 November in Kuusamo.

Earlier this week Kowalczyk announced that she plans to return to her previous sporting form.

Team Santander is a Norwegian cross-country ski team which participates in Ski classics. The team was established in 2007 by Anders and Jørgen Aukland. (rg/rk)
