The performance-enhancing drug detected in Wach’s blood improves muscle growth and increases the rate of protein synthesis. Povetkin’s promoter, Andrey Ryabinsky, confirmed the outcome of the test.
A former WBC International heavyweight champion, Wach (31-2, 17 KOs) lost the November fight to Povetkin (30-1, 22 KOs), following a technical knockout in the twelfth round, in Kazan, Russia.
The Polish boxer previously tested positive for steroids after a fight with heavyweight champion Vladimir Klitschko in 2012. He may now face a lifetime ban. (aba)
