Majka, riding as the leader of the Tinkoff team, is aiming for a top-three finish in the general classification of the tour.

His main rivals at this point are Italian Vincenzo Nibali from Team Astana and Spain’s Alejandro Valverde, the leader of the Movistar Team.

After 15 stages, Majka said he is managing stress better than earlier in the race, although he admitted he has “tougher days.” He said: “The pressure is huge, not only during the stages. It starts as soon as we start training.”

Majka pointed out that three of the remaining six stages lead through the high mountains and are extremely challenging, so the classification of the tour might change significantly over the next week.

Majka has previously led his team (then named Tinkoff-Saxxo) in the Giro d’Italia in 2013, when he finished seventh, and in 2014, when he came in sixth. (tf/pk)
