Former Polish volleyball coach dies

Andrzej Niemczyk, the former coach of Poland’s national women’s volleyball team, died on Thursday at the age of 72. He had been battling cancer.

Under Niemczyk, the Polish women’s team twice won gold in the European Championships, in 2003 and 2005.
Before becoming Poland manager, Niemczyk was a volleyball player himself, with caps for his country. (pk)
