Poland, coached by Stephane Antiga, beat the Australians 25:21, 25:15, 27:25 in a qualifying tournament in Tokyo on Sunday.

Both teams paid tribute to the late Andrzej Niemczyk, a former coach of the Polish women's volleyball squad, with a minute's silence ahead of the match.

The Polish men's volleyball team leaves the World Olympic Qualification Tournament with six matches won, and one game lost to Iran.

Poland had already claimed a ticket to Rio on Thursday after they triumphed against Venezuela 3:0.

The fixture against Australia is believed to be the final game of libero Piotr Gacek in the Polish men's national volleyball team. The 2006 world vice-champion will not be travelling to the upcoming FIVB Volleyball World League and, ultimately, Rio, under a decision made by coach Antiga.

Three other countries to clinch a ticket to Rio in the qualifying tournament are France, Iran and Canada. (aba/pk)
