Poland beat world champions Germany 2:0 in the qualifying round in 2014, in their sole victory against the Germans in 20 games.

“Winning against Germany in the EURO qualifiers was a really important moment for the development of this team. But with our good players, such important wins would have come around sooner or later,” said Polish coach Adam Nawałka.

“We believe in ourselves but we face one of the best teams in the world so it is going to be very, very difficult. Every game here is a special day for us. We are proud we are here representing Poland,” Nawałka added.

Polish star striker Robert Lewandowski said ahead of the game: “Germany have a solid defence, but you can bring down any wall.”

Poland beat Northern Ireland on Sunday, gaining three points in the first round. Meanwhile, Germany won their game against Ukraine, and also have three points at this point in the competition. (rg/pk)
