After the Herculean effort, lasting 43 days, 57-year-old Jakubik said: “I am tired but happy to have completed what was my longest pilgrimage. I have fulfilled one of the greatest dreams in life.”

It took him two years to prepare for the feat. A back-up car accompanied Jakubik, carrying 120 jars of ready-made meals that had to be reheated, 30 jars of jam, five jars of honey, 25 kilos of dietary supplements and 15 kilos of biscuits.

A retired miner, Jakubik has been running for 28 years. He holds a national record in a 48-hour run, having covered 370 km and 381 meters over that period in 2000.

Four years ago he completed 40 marathons in 42 days, while three years ago he covered 1,590 km from Ruda Śląska to the Vatican. (mk/pk)
