The head of the Polish mission, Marzenna Koszewska from the Polish Olympic Committee, gave the Olympic village mayor thanks and a small gift. He then officially admitted the Polish squad.

Afterwards, Koszewska spoke about the logistic challenges that the Polish team are facing.

"Everything it is still not as it should be. The main thing is that we now have water, but for example at night beds go missing.

"In the evening, we enter the apartments to check if everything is ready for the arrival of the next group and everything is there. In the morning, suddenly it is not there anymore," she said.

She added, however, that all problems are gradually being resolved.

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games opening ceremony starts at 8 pm on Friday in Brazil (1 am on Saturday 6 August Polish time). The Olympics finish on 21 August. (mol/pk)
