Saturday’s opening singles match saw China’s Olympic first-timer Saisai Zheng beat fourth-seeded Radwańska 6-4, 7-5.

An Olympic triumph remains elusive for the Polish tennis champ, who lost in a second-round match in Beijing in 2008, and was ousted in a first-round game in London four years later.

The match may not, however, be Radwańska’s last in Rio as she may still play in the mixed doubles for the Polish side. (aba/pk)
