Andrejczyk’s throw of 67.11 m on her first attempt was the best result this year in the world.

Twenty-year-old Andrejczyk beat the previous Polish national record - 64.08 m - by more than three meters.

"I'm so shocked ... I don’t know how it happened. It came out really well,” an elated Andrejczyk said.

“Can I do it again in the finals? We'll see," she told Poland’s TVP public broadcaster.

The women’s javelin finals take place on Thursday.
