In the London 2012 Paralympics, Poles won 36 medals and took ninth place in the overall medals classification.

Łukasz Szeliga, the head of the Polish Paralympic Committee and a former alpine skier who took part in the winter Paralympics in Nagano, Salt Lake City and Turin, said: "The Paralympic games are the most important sports event for sportsmen with disabilities in the world... In Rio, [the expected number] of medals [for the Polish team] is over 50."
