Home advantage did not help the Warsaw team. The German guests scored their first goal in the 7th minute. Only 17 minutes into the match, Borussia was 3:0 ahead.

National team player Michał Pazdan was not playing for Legia due to injury, while his national team colleague Łukasz Piszczek played the whole match for Borussia.

The game is the highest defeat of a Polish participant in Champions League history.

Fans of both teams set off flares during the match. Legia fans also caused commotion at the stadium, trying to force their way into the Borussia fans’ sector and chanting offensive slogans about the opposing team.

The Polish team may now face UEFA sanctions, such as a fine or playing an upcoming match against Real Madrid behind closed doors. (mol/pk)
