In its first game in the Champions League in 20 years, Legia lost 0:6 on Wednesday on home turf against Borussia Dortmund.

Warsaw police said that a group of about 170 fans got through one of the gates of the Legia stadium in the centre of the Polish capital and started a riot.

Following an intervention of the stadium’s security forces, the organisers were forced to ask police to help.

Legia’s fans are accused of starting the riot, lighting flares, throwing items onto the pitch, racist behaviour, as well as blocking emergency exits.

Borussia may face punishment as well, as the team’s fans are accused of setting off flares and throwing projectiles.

UEFA will meet to discuss the hooliganism by Legia fans on 28 September. (tf/rg)
