The head of the Polish Volleyball Federation, Jacek Kasprzyk, said: “The team needs new drive.”
He added: “Respect for Stephane for everything he did... It's not that he did bad work. A certain period has come to an end, we want to open a new chapter."
Kasprzyk said that Antiga would remain coach until 31 December.
Antiga, 40, said: "Of course I'm disappointed because it was good to work with the boys and my staff.
“I wanted to be a coach in a year’s time, at the European Championships in Poland, but I understand that the result at the Olympics was the most important thing."
The Polish volleyball team went to the Rio Olympics eyeing a medal but their hopes were dashed in the quarter-finals with a 0:3 defeat to the US.
