Zmarzlik won 128 points coming behind UK's Tai Woffinden (130 points) and gold medal winner Greg Hancock, from the US, with 139 points.

Veteran rider Hancock is a four-time FIM Speedway Grand Prix world champion.

Ahead of the World Cup elimination stage, Poland's Zmarzlik had 113 points and lost two to Woffinden and 10 to Australian Jason Doyle. The latter did not compete in Melbourne, as he is still recovering from a fall in Toruń, Poland, three weeks ago. (rg)
