Former Polish Olympic volleyball player Szymczyk dies

Jerzy Szymczyk, a former volleyball player for the Polish national team, died aged 74 on Sunday, the onet.pl website has reported.

Szymczyk played a total 123 games for Poland from 1961 to 1970.
The Polish team came second at international volleyball federation FIVB’s first ever World Cup in 1965, which was held in Poland.
Szymczyk also competed at FIVB World Championships in 1966 and 1970 and won a bronze medal at the 1967 European Volleyball Championship.
Szymczyk also represented Poland in volleyball at the Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968. (vb/pk)
